Well, I finally finished writing my launch article for my website today. After I look at it tonight, I will probably send it out to my website designer in Ohio sometime tomorrow. I think I’m satisfied with it finally. The website should be up very, very soon.
Hubby and I have calmed down about the CW buyout. We see it as a positive event, and must treat it as such. Although life is always uncertain, there is no point in being negative about it. It’s “turn lemons into lemonade” mentality time. He will just have to watch carefully what is happening at work, such as who got another job, pass out his updated resume, and keep his hearing aid on for announcements of job openings. I’m confident he will find a new position. I believe in him.
Last Saturday was my birthday. Oddly, I do not feel older. I felt that I was becoming more and more a freelance writer though. Isn’t that strange? Is it because I’m wiser and have more knowledge now? They say writers don’t really write until after 40. I think that’s mainly true. How can you write about anything if you have not experienced life?
Yesterday is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. My husband, my younger daughter, and I drove up to Santa Barbara, CA to see the USS Ronald Reagan. It’s a Nimitz class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. It was moored just off Santa Barbara Pier. It was an awesome sight. I have a photo of it, but have to download it first to the computer, so will try to include it in this post later this week.
Big crowds everywhere. On the pier itself, people were walking, talking, asking questions, jostling and joking, and there were plenty of cameras, professional photographers, video cameras, and binoculars. There were Navy soldiers walking around for security purposes, and plenty of vendors hawking their stuff. There was also the Arlington West Memorial set up on the beach, just off the pier entrance, with 3,000 crosses in memory of the soldiers who have died in Iraq. That was a pretty impressive sight too.
We saw a huge pelican sitting on top of a restaurant. Seabirds were flying everywhere overhead, and there were plenty of boats sailing around the mammoth Navy ship in celebratory fashion. Somebody had done a wonderful sand sculpture mermaid. The weather was beautiful and everyone was friendly. I love Santa Barbara. I’m so lucky that I only live about an hour’s drive from there. I try to go up there whenever I can, to enjoy the day. It is a very uplifting place to be in. It’s so expensive there, though, and those who can afford to live there are fortunate.
See, now I was able to write about this, because I was there and experienced it, and put it into my writing.
I also think people tend to gravitate towards people with a positive look on life. It’s the same for writers. No one wants to read anything from a writer who has a negative attitude. There are exceptions of course, like Hemingway, but that’s another subject I’ll write about someday.
So there, I went out and enjoyed life in Santa Barbara, CA. With those wonderful sunny beaches, fantastic views, and lovely weather and interesting things to see, that’s why I’m so positive and cheerful. I so enjoyed it all yesterday.
